Product DescriptionAmazon.com Product Description Logitech is touting an advancement in comfort and usability design with its ergonomic, cross-platform Cordless Wave keyboard. There might be some marketing hyperbole to this claim, but after a week of typing with the Wave, I'm not sure that I could live without it.Like other ergonomic keyboards, the Wave includes an elevated palm rest, though not as extreme as the platforms of old. It's also covered in a lightly padded vinyl upholstery that feels soft yet firm under the wrist, as well as a Goldilocks amount of tackiness (i.e., not too slippery, not sticky, just right). The keys are also positioned in a gentle U-shaped arc that nearly escapes the eye, but is apparent once you set your wrists down and start typing.
As someone who writes for a living, my computer keyboard is one of the most important tools I have and one that I'm connected to for hours every day. I've gone through many models over the years to get just the right one, and I currently use the Matias Tactile Pro on my Mac as it provides some of the best keystroke feedback I've found (which is the polar opposite to the frustratingly squishy keyboards that came with my HP and Apple PCs). While the rolling contour of the keyboard layout was barely perceptible, my fingertips took to the Wave easily. It felt like each key was indeed designed specifically to fit the finger that was mapped to tap it. And the keys combine a springy action with a final tap that's not too loud, but both tactile and audible enough for instant feedback. As my week of testing progressed and my fingers grew more accustomed to the Wave, I actually felt as if my typing was both more accurate than on the Tactile Pro as well as a touch faster. From an ergonomic standpoint, the Wave's gradual curve isn't immediately noticeable, but after a few days I found my elbows weren't hunched next to my body as they were with the straight keyboard, freeing both wrists and shoulders from strain. That said, if you require more substantial ergonomics for your typing (such as the curve and height of the Microsoft Natural), you might be disappointed by the relative flatness of the Wave.
The keyboard is supplemented by a plethora of system-specific feature buttons--including Flip 3D, Gadgets and Media Center in Windows Vista (aka, Expose, Dashboard, and Front Row on the Mac)--as well as quick access to your selected audio program and full playback controls (including volume). All functions can be customized using the included Logitech Setpoint utility (or Control Center within the Mac's System Preferences). When I began reviewing the Cordless Wave, I wasn't looking for a new keyboard. But thanks to its excellent typing action, unique comfort features--from the contoured design of the keys to the padded wrist rest--and the plethora of customizable functions right at the tip of the finger, it's time to part ways with my old keyboard. --Agen G.N. Customer ReviewsRated I purchased a wave for my wife 3 years ago and it was noisy and loose. Cheaply made I thought but she like the angles and comfort so who am I to complain, it's hers. Within a few months the white paint, and that's all it is folks, began to fall off the keys. Bringing me back to my original assessment cheaply made. I service the office computers, 5 now, used to be 6, so a few times a month I would sit at her desk and notice more lost paint off the keys. I thought, the design is great, why would the paint the lettering on the keys with no recess, any fool knows it will rub off, but of course you can't see that much detail in a photo of the keyboard on the internet. 14 months after I purchased the keyboard I contacted Logitech to tell them how disappointed I was that they had a well designed keyboard but stopped short in its construction quality. They wrote back asking me to take a photo of the keyboard and send it, via email. I did, and they decided that it would be replaced. A week later I received a new keyboard, it was tighter, quieter and I'm thinking now here's a better mousetrap. I plugged it in it worked perfectly but as I looked closer I noticed the same cheaply painted key lettering. Two months later I notice a few of the letters had lost some of their paint, 6 months later more letter with out any paint, and here I am with another well designed keyboard with half the lettering on the keys gone. I like Logitech's MX mouse and thought the keyboard would be equally acceptable, well it's not. Too bad they not only could have had a great keyboard, but could have retained their high quality reputation with me. Rated This product is so beautiful! It is very comfortable and has lasted me a while now without any issues. It is very precise and easy to use. I have never had a problem with Logitech items and this product is continuing to make me happy :) Rated I couldn't find this keyboard at any local stores, they all came with a cordless mouse ... which I didn't need. I was thrilled to find it on Amazon and find this a very comfortable keyboard to use. It's great support for my wrists and I like the feel and layout of the keys. I would highly recommend this keyboard. I tried many others at the stores, and this was by far the most comfortable. Rated This is probably the best keyboard I have bought so far. The comfort pad is very nice and the wave design of the keys really makes it easy to type. The best thing about this keyboard is the shortcut keys that are provided. With the provided software all of these keys can be customized to open any program, file, folder, etc. One thing I really enjoy is the fact that even when I'm doing something in full-screen mode I can listen to music and still change songs, play, pause without having to leave full-screen mode. This is very helpful if you like to listen to music while playing games. Rated What an amazing experience this keyboard is -- quiet, comfortable and very little "re-training" to accommodate the comfort curve/wave design. I purchased it to replace another Logitech board, and I could not be more delighted. I actually purchased two: for one thing, I'm afraid they will discontinue the wired model, and I have no time for the nasties associated with wireless keyboards: battery death/failure, etc. (I've tried some: I can't figure out their purpose in computer life, as the wire takes no space to speak of, and you can move the board around [see note on USB cable length, however]. Now a wireless mouse? Yes - as long as it has a recharge capability!) Second reason for double-buy: I am a heavy-duty computer user, and I do not have any expectations of my keyboard lasting more than 2-3 years. Third: I am no fan of split keyboards (I'm hard to train, evidently?), and don't want to be left with simply those for "ergonomic" keyboards. So... Disclosure: Running Windows 7 Home Pro; had used this keyboard a few years ago with Vista and it worked exceedingly well then, too. I purchased this to replace an expensive and LOUD Logitech G15 keyboard, as I found I needed none of the features of that board and it was thoroughly annoying in too many respects (I am not a gamer; I should never have gotten the G15 to begin with, so don't yell at me about hating it if you are a gamer and think it's fabulous. I admit it was not a good fit for ME.) Praise: (1) The keyboard is ultra-quiet! I like listening to music while I work, not clacky keys. (2) There is almost no "training curve" to accommodate the "curve" (grin) -- those who have never used one have had no trouble adapting to mine when they've hopped on the system. (3) The programmable buttons work -- and the SetPoint software installed without a glitch (unusual for Logitech, I admit). I saw a mention of hidden spyware in one review (and only one); I don't feel this is the case. There is an update that will appear, although it doesn't explain what it updates on the software -- I installed it. I am running Win7 Home Pro, as indicated. The special keys work perfectly after setting them up for my preferences (almost insultingly easy to do). The only one that's a bit odd is that the Zoom keys (left side of board) seem to activate "page up/down" and I'll work on fixing that. It's not an issue for me, quite frankly, at least not right now. (4) The delete key issue is personal - I love it. And Home/End placement makes sense - they actually indicate by their placement the way you want go, since they're set up horizontally. Might not sound like much - but it's pretty rational. Gripes: (1) One has been mentioned already - the USB cable is too short by at least 18-24 inches, particularly if you have a larger desk (and I do). I added an extension I already had and didn't need for another product, but Logitech could easily fix this before it goes in the box. (2) Very minor gripe - it would be nice if one could raise the palm rest a bit, as on the Wave 450 (priced higher here on Amazon and has a much higher shipping fee... go figure!) That was helpful and practical: changing the position of a keyboard can help alleviate fatigue when one is at the keyboard for many hours. In short (whew!), you can't go wrong with this keyboard if you're willing to make a few small (and I mean SMALL) adjustments, especially if you've had a flat, inexpensive, non-curved keyboard. My typing speed (I do huge amounts of word-processing) has actually increased, and I feel as if it is flowing far better (consistent effort and speed, not so much "hesitation" and "speed-bursts").
