The Evoluent VerticalMouse is the advanced third generation of the revolutionary mouse from the inventor of the handshake grip. The patented shape supports your hand in a fully upright handshake position that eliminates forearm twisting. An ordinary horizontal mouse requires your forearm to twist away from its natural position. The grip is the same as an ordinary mouse, just turned sideways into a handshake position. Many users said they got used to it very quickly. The VerticalMouse does not move sideways when clicking with normal force because the thumb naturally opposes the fingers. Pointer control is as accurate as any other good mouse when the pointer speed settings are properly adjusted.Product Features

on 2010-08-31Yes, my fingers don't go to sleep anymore but my wrist hurts so badly that I can't use the darn thing. Not worth the money I spent on it.

on 2010-08-25I don't know how this product got such good reviews. I bought it based on what I read here, but I returned it after a few hours of use. This design is based on the natural handshake position. The position is indeed naturally comfortable, but not when you are resting your hand perpendicular to a table. If you relax your hand on edge you will find gravity magically toppling your fingers until your fingers curl slightly and end up close to a pen holding position, at least that's what happens with me. I doubt anyone would feel comfortable keeping their fingers lined up vertically for extended periods of time. I have relatively big hands (6ft male) and the size of the mouse is indeed good for me. However, I can't rest my hand on it! There is just no good place to lean my hand. The buttons are huge and overly sensitive. I end up pushing the buttons every time I lean on it. I disabled the bottom and thumb buttons almost immediately. I found myself using odd muscles to prop my hand against it by squeezing the base of my thumb toward my index finger. I am thinking this may have been alleviated with a good wrist rest, but I don't have one at the moment so I can't say. The manual notes to hold the mouse with your finger tips but where exactly would I do that with such big buttons? Hold the center behind the buttons? Then I am definitely not leaning on it. Perhaps I am using my mice all wrong by leaning on them but I am a computer programmer and I am on the mouse for long hours. The other problem is that the mouse is too tall! Going from keyboard to mouse I found myself smacking the top of it. I just could not jive with it, so no thanks. Bought a Logitech Performance Mouse MX instead and couldn't be happier with it's contours, large size, and fast spinning wheel. Perhaps with a wrist rest and/or light use the Evoluent would make more sense. I would definitely anticipate a period of getting used to it as it's just not what your muscles will be used to coming from what is likely years of using a regular mouse.

on 2010-08-22For this price, I am appalled that the mouse is essentially unusable after three months. The scroll wheel is jammed up, and cleaning doesn't help. I feel ripped off.

on 2010-08-17The EVOLUENT mouse is a great idea, great mouse, made well, no learning curve, a regular mouse on its side, felt good right out of the box, BUT I have shoulder/upper arm problems. After a day of using the mouse my shoulder and upper arms were killing me. I was actually holding my arm to use the mouse. I was devastated. I thought I had done my homework and of course read the raving review by an ergonomist. What does he/she know? Go to [...] to see what is ergonomic for you. I wish I had found this site previous to purchase. Now, I am back to a trackball trying to perfect cut and paste which is the downside of a trackball but the trackball for ME is ergonomic. Many of us started computing in the '70s when no one thought about ergonomics, the desks were not created for using a mouse, your arms were always slanted upwards. We survived. I hope that there is continued research/work on mouse ergonomics and do give the Evoluent a try.
