Customer ReviewsRated The manual is VERY short but, despite other reviews, I found easy to start Dynaflex Gyro. Unfortunatelly, it is NOT that easy to learn the movements needed to keep it running. I'm still looking in the internet to learn. But I'm not disapointed with it, since I understand that is matter of time... Rated I have used the Dynaflex off and on for a few years now. I just bought a new one because the old one has broken and been repaired, but's it's getting old and increasingly difficult to start and keep going. I rock climb so the interest in this device is clear. I am not sure exactly how much it improves your forearm/hand strength if you already climb and/or have strong hands and forearms, but it definitely helps you get a little pump going. I imagine a person who doesn't get a lot of exercise in this area will see more of a benefit. I like it for warming up, cooling down, rehab (promote blood flow to forearms/hands), or just a way for the forearms to get a little extra work. I would think it provides decent forearm conditioning, especially for the often underworked antagonist muscles. It may increase forearm fitness/endurance by providing a long, low impact medium-resistance exercise. Another nice thing about the Dynaflex is that you can vary what muscles you are targeting. You can ceep the arm completely still and just rotate your wrist (forearm/hands), or move your whole arm around and keep your wrist straight (shoulder/elbow) - or anything in between. Since it's low impact, you can use it all you want with little risk of injury. I like to use the device in the car on the drive to work. It's pretty easy to get going without the string. The two keys are a) getting the gyro to spin fast enough initially and b) getting a good feel for moving it at that initial slower speed. I just place my thumb on the gyro and give it a good flick. Sometimes it takes a couple tries - you'll get better with practice, like most things. I wish there was one that had addtional weight/resistance. Recommendations: Don't drop it, especially on a hard surface. It will crack open. You can glue it back together but it may not run as smoothly. Keep it in a bag or container to keep it from getting dirty. Don't try to start it by running it against a flat oject - you'll wear it out quick. Rated A number of reviews complain about the effectiveness or even the ability to use the product. You will not achieve intense resistance until you learn to spin the gyroscope up to very high velocities. Gyroscopes have a primary axis of rotation that is the high velocity we are familiar with. If the axis of rotation is the X axis then the X axis will tend to slowly rotate about the Y axis. This effect is called precession. You will notice it in your Dynaflex if you look at the gyroscope and see it spin about on its slower axis anywhere from 0 to 360 degrees every second - a relatively slow spin compared to the primary rotation. It is the precession you must learn to feel to drive the gyroscope faster and faster. Those who have achieved the truly high velocities will attest to the fact that you cannot maintain the resistance for very long making this a very effective tool. You can even learn to reverse the precession at will and exercise both an outside and inside rotation of the wrist. I use it on long drives and can maintain the much slower speeds for hours, but every couple miles I will 'sprint' and drive the gyroscope up as fast as I can and hold that effort for a full mile before relaxing back down. It WILL build muscle strength and endurance with practice. Don't knock it when you haven't effectively used it. I doubt its effectiveness for grip strength as your hand simply remains static around the ball. Rated I have carpol I have carpal tunnel and I constant pain. Since I cannot afford medical I figure I might as well give this item a try and hope for the best. I was very disappointed. The small video that came with the gyro makes it look easy, but the hand motions must be done in a very 'specific way' not the so called easy method described in the video. I did not even get a string with my gyro, so I had to improved and use some generic string. it works somewhat and I better rotation than the slow idiotic method shown of using the magic 'thumb' or the karate chop method. The store 'models' wont give me a refund since I opened the package and used it. So I am stuck with an ugly looking paperweight. Hopefully I will be able to get a job that will allow me to afford proper treatment for my carpal tunnel. I hate these scams from these 'snake oil' businesses. Rated After trying all the ways but one they show on the cd neither the wife or I were able to get it going. I would have tried the one way of starting with the string but it wasn't included in my package. A few hours later its in the garbage can, back to my free weights. Similar Products
